Nama media tersebut "The Daily".

Misalnya, Sasaha Frere-Jones, kritikus musik di majalah The New Yorker sebagai editor budaya.

Facebook and Myspace finally friend one another

Facebook and Myspace Finally ‘Friend’ One Another

Nov. 18 2010 - 1:00 pm

Facebook and Myspace finally friend one another

Well, it’s official – Facebook and Myspace have kissed and made up.

Or, depending on how you look at it, Myspace has finally “surrendered” to the big, bad, blue and white social giant.

Either way, Thursday’s announcement from Myspace CEO Mike Jones and Facebook VP of Partnerships Dan Rose has been a long time coming.

“Mashup with Facebook” – the official name for the collaboration between the two longtime competitors – lets Myspace users import all of their Facebook likes and interests into their “personalized content stream.”

In other words, Facebook’s Connect product – the platform that allows a Facebook user to integrate their profile specs and info into outside pages – has ‘officially’ come to Myspace. The full integration is being rolled out globally today, and incorporation of Facebook’s “Like” buttons on Myspace content pages is forthcoming.

Interestingly enough, the Facebook Connect ability is going to be “implemented from the homepage of Myspace”, says Myspace CEO Mike Jones, with the “function located within the signup and login box.” It’s a questionable move – branding the front page of Myspace’s site with a Facebook logo – but it’s a signal that Myspace doesn’t want to compete directly with the social giant anymore.

“Myspace is a leading social entertainment destination,” Jones said multiple times during the call, rehashing the signal the company tried to send to the press during it’s redesign launch in October – the company’s “core mission is curation,” Jones said. “We want to become the leading social entertainment destination,” Jones said in another interview with me in October. “connecting users to content that defines different entertainment tastes. We’re not a social network.”

Since the company launched “Sync with Facebook” a few months ago – which let Myspace users sync their flowing content stream on their Myspace page with that of their Facebook feed, Jones said Myspace integrated 1 million new users as a result.

But “Mashup with Facebook” is apparently different . It’s “about connecting content you like on Facebook to Myspace and having the ability to experience new recommended content,” a Myspace spokesperson told me. “This feature builds on Sync with Facebook to offer a richer and more real-time Stream.”

So, is it integration, or is it surrender?

Jones (obviously) says the former: “Myspace is committed to a new strategy,” positioning his site as a “complimentary offering to Facebook and other social platforms.” Jones clarified that there’s “no financial component to this partnership.”

Bottom line for Jones, and for Myspace: It’s about entertainment curation, not social media market dominance. With this rollout we’ll see if traffic numbers respond accordingly.

Below are a few screen shots on what the integration will look like:

Facebook Luncurkan E-mail Senin?

Facebook Luncurkan E-mail Senin?

(kd)

The Hottest Cars Of 2011

The Hottest Cars Of 2011

Hannah Elliott, 11.11.10, 07:15 PM EST

These stunners will turn heads and quicken heartbeats.

Car-lovers take heart: Car and truck sales in the U.S. rose 13.4% in October over a year ago, and industry-watchers expect the gain to continue as dealers use holiday promotions and year-end deals to clear inventory.

Better yet, some of the hottest cars to hit the scene in years make their way to showrooms this spring.

Take the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport. Not only is it the world's fastest production car (it hit 268 miles per hour last summer in Germany) but it is also one of the most refined--with interior cues taken from its sister company, Bentley. Its cockpit is wrapped in hand-stitched soft-grain leather and trimmed to the hilt in carbon-fiber; the rear-view camera, Bluetooth capability and Satellite radio make driving to the store a pleasant experience rather than the sweat- and stress-inducing jolt provided by other exotic autos. In Pictures: The Hottest Cars Of 2011

The Super Sport's exterior is hot too, with bold lines that look modern but evoke Bugattis from the 1920s and '30s (a continuous crest line down the length of the car, a stirrup-shaped grill).

Sure, you'll pay for all that beauty--at a retail price of $2.5 million, only the world's wealthiest people can afford to put a Super Sport in their garages. But those lucky enough to do so will really get something special: A balance of 1,200 horsepower, three suspension settings and a world-renowned dual-clutch transmission. "It's a real physical sensation," says Bugatti driver Pierre-Henri Raphanel. "The Bugatti is incredible because if I give you more performance, it will normally destroy and contort drivability and reliability, [but the Super Sport can be] controlled with only two fingers on the steering wheel."

Bugatti's not the only marquee coming out with stunners. Ferrari's street-legal 599XX variant, theGTO, the elegant Audi R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI Quattro and McLaren's first-ever solo production car, the MP4-12C, will quicken lots of heart rates when they hit the streets next year.

One common thread between some of the hottest new cars is an emphasis on weight control. Almost every car on our list, including the Range Rover Evoque, boasts a streamlined frame, light-as-air carbon fiber components or a super-efficient, whittled down engine.

Stephan Winkelmann, the CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, says the future of high-end motoring is about handling, not power. "If you can have a car that decreases in weight with the same power, you will have a much better feeling in the driving experience," he says.

Porsche's ( PSEPF.PK - news - people ) latest 911 variant, the lightening-quick GT2 RS, embraces that ethic. Dave Engelman, a spokesman for the Stuttgart, Germany-based company, says Porsche engineers got the GT2 RS to beat its predecessor 911 GT2 off the line by simple addition and subtraction: They upped the horsepower by 90 and pared down the weight by 154 pounds. That gave the coupe a power-to-weight ratio of 4.9 pounds per horsepower, by far the best in its class. They also managed to eke out a 5% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Muscle-car enthusiasts will be relieved to know there's something on our list for them as well: The much-anticipatedChevrolet Camaro Convertible, a Detroit-made animal whose $75,000 limited-edition Neiman Marcus variant sold out in three minutes last month. The standard version will have a 312-horsepower V6 engine and will go to production in the first quarter of 2011. There will also be a V8 SS option, which will likely be priced near $36,000.
The BMW 1 Series M Coupe is also lighter than its closest family member, the M3. Official specs for the high-performance coupe haven't been released yet, but M enthusiasts can expect to see a car roughly 300 pounds lighter and slightly more agile than its larger counterpart, thanks to a lower ride and smaller compartment.

Sure the Camaro packs a lot less punch than the Super Sport, as will even Lamborghini's Jota, the code-named successor to the Murcielago coupe. But for drivers in need of an ego boost next year, either will easily do the trick.

Story of Ancient Power Revealed in Royal Garden

Story of Ancient Power Revealed in Royal Garden

A newly discovered 7th century B.C. palace garden near Jerusalem could reveal details about how royals liked to let loose in ancient times.

Researchers from Tel Aviv University and Germany's Heidelberg University uncovered the royal garden at the site of Ramat Rachel, a kibbutz (communal farm) in Israel, and are leading the first full-scale excavation of this type of archaeological site in Israel.

"We have uncovered a very rare find," archaeologist Oded Lipschits of Tel Aviv University said.

The garden was a massive and lush green space royals would use to relax. Such pleasure spots were once the ultimate symbol of power, according to the researchers.

In fact, the garden would have been the most prominent feature of Ramat Rachel, visible from the west, north and south, said researcher Boaz Gross, a graduate student in archeology at Tel Aviv University.

One of the main features of the Ramat Rachel gardens is its intricate irrigation system, the likes of which have never been seen before outside of Mesopotamia (home of the famous Hanging Gardens of Babylon). The irrigation system includes open channels and closed tunnels for water to travel though, as well as stone-carved gutters and the framework for elaborate waterfalls.

When the garden was built, being able to control water - especially in the desert - was a great show of political strength.

Based on their analysis, the researchers think Ramat Rachel was built by the Judeans, but commissioned by foreign powers. The archaeologists hope to study the site more to unravel its story, and shed new light on the complicated political maneuverings between the various empires that ruled in Israel. The site was in use from the 7th to the 4th centuries B.C., a period that saw many wars and exchanges of power, with the garden evolving under each civilization.

According to the researchers, the first phase of the garden can be dated back to the 7th century B.C., when Judah became a vassal kingdom of the Assyrian empire.

"It is our assumption, due to a combination of our finds at the dig correlated with historical texts, that the garden and the main parts of the citadel were constructed during this period, and probably following some kind of 'order' of the empire, or at least to facilitate the needs to raise taxes to it," Lipschits told LiveScience in an e-mail.

"The abundance of stamped jar handles, a form of administrative-economic system, from the Assyrian, Babylonian and Persian periods (7th-4th centuries B.C.), indicate the site was in use throughout the changing of powers, and the lack of destruction layers suggest the transition went smoothly in Ramat Rahel, and that it continued with its original purpose - an administrative center of produce distribution," he said.

The researchers are using a combination of excavation methods to study the garden site. For example, botanical and agricultural analysis will reveal which plants and animals lived in the garden, while geological inspection should show where the soil originated. The scientists are also studying the plaster inside water trenches to try to find hidden pollen remains.

"Proper excavation will provide an essential tool to future researchers," Gross said. "We are carefully deciphering what we have in front of us. There are no parallels to it."

The researchers' findings will be reported in an upcoming issue of the journal Near Eastern Archaeology.

ROME – More buildings inside the ancient Roman city of Pompeii could collapse, Italy's culture minister said Sunday, a day after a 2,000-year-old house once used by gladiators disintegrated into rubble.

The collapse Saturday at one of Italy's main tourist attractions was a source of embarrassment for the government and the country. President Giorgio Napolitano said it was a "disgrace for Italy" and demanded an explanation.

Culture Minister Sandro Bondi, who went to Pompeii to survey the damage on Sunday, warned that other buildings could also fall, according to Italian news agencies.

Given the number of buildings that need restoration, further damage is virtually "inevitable," said Daniela Leone, a spokeswoman for Pompeii's archaeological superintendence.

"This is a vast area that requires maintenance, resources," she said.

The house that collapsed on Saturday was used by gladiators to train before going to fight in a nearby amphitheater, as well as by other athletes. It was also a storehouse for weapons and armor.

It was believed to have been built not long before Pompeii was destroyed in A.D. 79 by an eruption of Mount Vesuvius, which killed thousands of people and buried the city in 20 feet (six meters) of volcanic ash.

The house was also partially destroyed during World War II, and the roof and some of the walls had been rebuilt.

Bondi suggested that water infiltration following heavy rains and the heavy roof added during the postwar restoration were to blame.

However, he said some frescoes on the lower parts of the walls may be saved, and urged more government funds for Pompeii.
